Assignment Submission Instructions

Use the following steps to create and share your written work with me as a Google doc:

1. In your SU email account, click the “Documents” link in the upper left corner.

2. Click “Document” in the “Create new” drop-down menu to the upper left of your Documents menu.

3. Type the document’s title in the “Untitled document” window in the upper left corner.

4. Type your document directly into the large white page space.

5. TO SAVE YOUR WORK: Google frequently saves automatically, but you should also manually save by clicking on the “Save now” button in the upper right corner.

6. TO FORMAT TEXT: Google docs’ default font is Arial 11 point, which is off assignment. To change this font:

a. Highlight all text as you would in MS Word.

b. Click the “Arial” drop-down menu to the left above the page area.

c. Select a serif font like Times New Roman.

d. Click the “11pt” drop-down menu next to the font menu and select “12pt.”

e. You can format margins and tabs using that formatting bar above the page area.

7. TO SHARE YOUR GOOGLE DOC WITH ME:

a. Click the “Share” drop-down menu in the upper right corner.

b. Select “Sharing settings.” A dialog box called “Sharing settings” will appear.

c. Under “Add people:” near the bottom, type my email address: mbrown5@su.edu.

d. Make sure the drop-down menu next to my address is set to “Can edit.”

e. At the bottom right of this window, make sure a check appears in the box entitled “Send email notifications (recommended).”

f. Click the “Share” button at the bottom left. A revised “Sharing settings” dialog box will appear. It should list your name next to “Is owner” and my name next to “Can edit.” You can change these sharing settings if they are incorrect.

g. When your sharing settings are as listed in #f, click “Close” at the bottom left of this window.

h. Google will generate an email to me, alerting me that you have shared a document with me. This email is not always immediate, so allow extra time for server traffic or crashes that may slow down your submission message.
